My linking campaign is only about 3 months old but here are some of the things I have done:
To give my link partners the maximum benefit from their links on my site: 1) I have set up multiple links pages so that they can be state and/or industry specific. 2) I put the state and/or industry keyword in the page title. 3) All of my links pages are within 2 clicks of virtually every page on my site. 4) I avoid the use of the words “link” or “links” anywhere on the page, although some link partners put this word in their description. 5) I work on my links pages almost every day so that they are constantly changing. 6) I will keep my links pages limited to 50 links per page, although none are close to that yet. 7) I do not list sites alphabetically. For me to get the maximum benefit from the back links I aquire: 1) I do not trade links with sites that use LinksManager or any other automated program that I can tell. 2) I Only trade links with those sites that will put my link on a page that is relevant to my site. 3) I check the links page and the index page of every site that I exchange with to make sure that they are cached. 4) I make sure that the pages with my link on them are spiderable from the index page of the site. 5) Once a month I check to make sure that my link partners are still reciprocating. 6) I Focus on getting back links from sites with 100 or fewer links and a PR of at least 3 on the links page. However, If contacted, I accept PR0 links I know that PR does not affect SERPs but it does influence the number of people willing to trade links with me. I am optimistic that I will get a significant PR increase if there is ever another update. On October 6th, Yahoo showed me with 7 back links. Tonight they show me with 134. I hope these ideas are helpful to anyone starting out their own linking campaign. Does anyone have any ideas that I missed?
