It's a rainy day and I've not got much to do. I was doing some seo research and it seems google may like .edu and .gov sites does anyone have any good white hat suggestions on how to get linked to edu and gov sites? (I already saw the black hat methods and I don't have the skill nor the inclination to get busted for blackhat seo techniques, that may not work any longer anyway)
Why would an edu or gov site want to link to a realtor site?

fogget about government ones but college ones you can probably get links by being a nice paying sponsors to their clubs and organizations or creating a cool tool for the student body so the students' personal pages can give you links.

Lots of times college students have to conduct research to create websites for their computer classes. If you get approached by one looking for information for a school project, offer your knowledge in exchange for a link to your site.
I've seen it happen first hand quite a few times, it does work.

I'm open to reciprocal links with other good real estate sites on www.hondros.edu. Currently it's a PR4 but that will be up soon enough. Hondros College does Real Estate training in 9 locations in Ohio (Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland, etc).

I would focus on relevant links from quality websites in general. If they're relevant and happen to be a .edu or .gov domain, so be it. To this day, I've yet to see anything conclusive that proves Google puts more weight on a site simply because of the domain extension it has.
I think the reason people associate .edu and .gov sites with quality backlinks is because these sites are usually older sites with good ranking ... the same criteria that make a .com site great for backlinks. If you want a link from a real estate-related .edu site, visit this one ( http://www.recenter.tamu.edu/links/ ) and look for "add site" in the upper-left. Good luck. -Brandon |

Brandon brings up a good point about .gov and .edu extensions and trust. While many ,edus are trusted, being a edu doesnt make you trusted. The one mentioned doesnt have many, if any of the characteristics of a trusted .edu, other than its extension.

I only have 2 links to cambriarealestate.info. One is from www.csc.calpoly.edu/~ryross and one is from ryderross.com. My PR is a 4. I don't know how it is that high except for the fact that I have an edu link. Any ideas?
