Default Google Maps tool - adding custom maps for free

Hi all

I hope you don't mind me sharing http://www.aardvarkmap.net with you all. It's a Google Maps tool which we've just developed which allows you to create custom Google Maps for free, which can then be embedded into your own site.

Whether you want to map your office(s) or individual properties, with this simple tool you can have a map in minutes.

Any feedback on it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Aaron

I like it but it looks like all the maps will be stored on your servers?
Can I use my own google map api key with your code and host it on my own site?

Nonetheless a very cool tool!

Thanks, guys.

We host all the maps, yes. I'm afraid there's currently no means by which you can use your own Google Maps API. The idea was really to accommodate those who don't want to get bogged down with going down the GM API route.

Cool tool. I just added it to one of my pages http://www.memphis-realestate.net/re...lard-creek.php .

The only negative was; I had to adjust the width down to 572, vs. 582 to keep it from pushing my Nav Bar down to the bottom. I am sure there is a more proper way of fixing that, but I don't know it.

Any suggestions, ideas?

Cool tool, once again. Thanks.

Some where down the road you're obviously wanting to make money off of this. Adwords? Just curious, more power to you.

Actually, you probably did the right thing there. We make the iFrame slightly wider than it needs to be in order to accommodate those people using the overlay data. If they opt for overlays, it attaches a key to each symbol below, and this cause a vertical scroll bar to appear, so we need to allow for the width of the scroll bar.

That would be nice, yes. For the time being, our revenue potential comes from the small % who opt for the data overlays in step 2. For instance, if someone was to choose a hotel overlay, we have the potential to earn commissions from hotel bookings. Sadly, but not surprisingly, most users don't want that data but, where they do, there's a potential revenue source for us.

Pretty cool!

A little problem:

After getting to step3, I realized I had missed adding a marker. Clicked tab for Step 1, and no map was displayed. In the earlier attempt, I had panned and re-zoomed the map to get it located and sized the way I wanted it, and it seems that pushed the map out of the Step 1 frame so I couldn't get it back. I had to close the browser session and restart from scratch.

Hi Ronnie, I just tried to replicate your experience and was unable to do so. I'm really not sure what had happened there. With the benefit of hindsight, if you'd made a note of the map code when you were at step 3, you could have resumed where you left off even if your browser had to be restarted by using the 'retrive map' function. But of course, what you did should have worked fine, and I'm at a loss as to what might have happened.

Eric... glad you're finding it useful also.

Thanks for the support everyone... much appreciated.
