Default I’m looking to buy a home.

I want to buy a house, and with the declining prices, why won’t the realtor cut their fees?

I’ve been doing that. Any other suggestions?

In a slower market, REALTORS have to work much harder to market and sell their listings, so why would you expect them to work hard for less money? If the prices are declining, their losing commissions as it is.

When you engage in discussions directly with the agent that has the house listed, you are talking to someone who does not have your best interests in mind. They are respresenting the seller and not you.

You may be able to get the listing agent to reduce their commission charged to the seller, but that contract is between them and you cannot force them to change anything. If you get 2% off the price because of a reduced commission but you paid 5% more for the house than you would have if you were properly represented, then you really lost money.

Many buyers and sellers are successful with For Sale By Owner transactions but in many cases I see those homes being overpriced because the seller thinks that their home is worth more & that they'll save REALTOR fees too.

Well, that's all it took. I think I'm finished here. I can go elsewhere and listen to people who have no idea about this industry promote buying and selling without a REALTOR®. Leo, maybe you can tell him how to handle all the legalities of the transaction as well as take care of inspections, writing and negotiating the offer, title work, disclosures, etc.

and to add to Karen's comment, 7 to 8 of 10 FSBO usually hire a Realtor to list a home for sale.

You're probably right Jnazareno. My husband tells me I'm too gullible and believe everything. It didn't occur to me that they may be the same person! It just hit me wrong when I read it and I had to vent
