I want to get on page #1, and eventually become the #1 ranked page in Google for my market. I'm looking at various providers but I'm wondering who you guys would recommend??

Hang around Seth! You'll learn a lot about the process of seo if you do. And the one thing that you'll learn real fast is that it takes a lot of time to get your site ranked well. I'd read a lot on this site and some others to learn about seo.

That's the question heard most often by webmasters, usually because the person asking doesn't have enough knowledge yet of how the Internet works. It isn't easy to answer in a few sentences. First, think about what that position is worth. Corporations pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for search engine optimization and search engine marketing to accomplish the behind-the-scenes work necessary to get to #1. The more competitive the particular field, the more work needed. Your fellow agents have spent their own time and/or lots of money to get there ahead of you. Now you want to know how you can quickly jump in front of them (which is normal because you want to be successful). If you have the budget for it, you can hire the the "SEO-Guy" who runs this website and SEO-Guy.com.

If you can't afford an SEO expert, you'll have to learn how to do it yourself. You can actually learn the basics fairly quickly, but it takes time to do the actual work. Plus the results don't happen overnight, so you'll have be patient. Sorry, I know that's not what you want to hear.

Important: In the meantime, don't fall for the scams by email or phone guaranteeing #1 placement for something like $299. They will get your website to #1, but they'll use maybe 7 to 15 specific search words that no potential customer is ever going to enter in a search. Google is specific so if it finds those exact words in that exact order on a site, that site will appear at the top of the results--but NO ONE besides you and that scam company will do a search for those particular words in that particular order. Omit one search word or change the order, and you may not show up until page 20! So what good does it do? Nada. The only reason to be #1 is to increase traffic to your site; those scams won't increase traffic.

There are plenty of books about the Internet that can help you understand how it works. Learning the basics is the best way to protect yourself and make smart decisions... or hire a reputable webmaster like SEO-Guy.com / RealEstateWebmasters.com. And, no, they don't pay me to say that.
