I just did a link:competitiordotcom on google, and it shows a lot of backlinks from the internal pages of

the competitors site to theiw own homepage. Just wondering, are these links relevant (other than from a

user's navigation point of view) in terms of seo, and does google give credit to sites for these links?

Make sure your link to your homepage links to the domain not an index.html file.

Having all you internal links pointing to index.html and all your external links pointing to www.domain.com makes for 2 separate pages. Buy pointing your internal to the domain you preserve all your PR and point it all to 1 place.

Logan, he means that when you link back to home use / or www.yourdomain.com/ instead of linking to the document (index.htm, default.asp, index.php, etc.) It's also a good idea to 301 the non www to the www version.
