We have a great moving company here that I always use. it's called my friends and they work for beer. lol. seriously though there is a moving company in this area that i've always had great results with and that is Two Small Men With Big Hearts Moving Co. I don't know if they are a Nanaimo thing or if it's a big chain now, but have only heard good things about them.

My advice to anyone who is moving, particularly interstate moves, is to NEVER EVER get a quote from one of these online services. No matter how reputable the website (Yahoo, Realtor.com, MonsterMoving.com, etc.) these online services are where the real skells find their marks. I know from experience and recently convinced Homestore to remove one of these crooked companies who was serving as the exclusive interstate moving company on Realtor.com .
There is a great resource out there www.movingscam.com which was created by someone who was ripped off by a moving company and later became an advocate for others who were similarly robbed. It's staffed by a number of volunteers who are very knowledgeable and will help steer you away from the crooks. They also have a blacklist of moving companies to avoid, so if you're thinking of using a particular company, check out that site and it's message board. A few other points: Never rely only on BBB information to determine the reliability of a moving company. They can take months to update their info and are also funded by it's members so they are sometimes slow to act against a member. Always get a few quotes and always make sure they come to visit your home so they get a good estimate of whats going to be moved. ALWAYS get a 'GNTE' of guaranteed not to exceed estimate from each company. Make sure the company has been in business under the same name and owner for a considerable amount of time. Many scam companies change their name often. While there are some very good companies out there, there are many sharks. Consider moving yourself using companies like U-Pack or Broadway Express. These companies drop off a trailer for you to load and then deliver the trailer to your new location. These are not only much less expensive than full service movers, but are much more reliable. I'll step off of my soapbox for now and apologize for a long winded post. Since I've been ripped off, I've met many others who have also been taken by crooked moving companies and I always make it a point to try and help others avoid the crooks in the moving industry. Feel free to PM me with any questions. |
