Google has been a thorn in the side of Bill Gates. Trying to topple google in search engine arena is going to be an uphill battle. There is always someone that is going to have your number and Google has Bill Gates' number.

I think Bill Gates is just starting to pay attention to Google and that Vista's integration of Live.com search is just the begining. Bill is smart enough to know that right now he needs to build a great search engine before driving tons of traffic to it. I think Bill knows that Microsofts ability to take over search is directly related to its ability to provide great results. Something it hasn't been able to do yet. This is why Microsoft hasn't yet really tried to overtake google. It really has nothing to do with google having microsofts number and everything to do with microsofts inability to provide quality search results.

I've seen several interviews with Bill Gates and it is evident that he just flat out dislikes Google. I'm no expert, but I believe that many of Microsoft's software engineers jumped ship and went over to Google when they were just starting to get off the ground. The mistake Microsoft made is letting Google get too big before taking them on. Bill Gates doesn't like being second best and he knows that Google is going to be a tough nut to crack.

Don't be surprised MSN's buy out of Yahoo coincides with Vista launch. Microsoft has been too quiet like a quiet volcano.
