I'm ALMOST done setting up my Virginia Real Estate Directory. (Finally!)
I set it up so that the states are right off the root, with a few extras (international, nation-wide) there as well. Any comments, sub-category recommendations, or suggestions before I start filling it with links? Last edited by CafeMonkey : 01-07-2005 at 12:32 PM. |

I just assumed that was the way to do it... That's how they do it here: http://www.realestatewebmasters.com/...-directory.php
But yea, it gets more pages. Plus, I have content to add to those pages... City-specific statistics. I don't know if it'll do anything for me SEO-wise, but it might be useful to someone browsing. |

You might need to rethink the way the directory is layed out as you will end up with so many cities on your /directory/ page that it will look clutered. You only have one or two cities for most states now and that doesn't even come close to covering what will be needed. You might need to have each state link go the list of cities for that state. It will move the links one further from the index, but most will be one of only a few links.

Ken: Point well taken. I'll see if I can do that easy in the software config. What does everyone else think about that?
Kyle: To add your cities, on the left, click "Add Category". Great, huh? |

I just sent you your first listing for Nevada. Nice scripting.

I re-read your post, and I get it this time. It will only show 2 or 3 cities for each state, and I think it's alphabetical. So it will only be "so" cluttered. I checked the backend, and I can 1. turn off the cities, 2. turn on the cities (like it is now), or 3. Turn on the cities, but only show the ones with entries. Thoughts? Quote:

I would only list ones with agents in them or none all. You will be sending extra PR to the pages you list on the main directory page and this will make some links more valuable than other if you list some cities, but not all. This will only matter to a few pain in the a** people, but it might be more trouble than its worth.
Think I would just turn the cities off if it was me. Could you PM the software you are using and what you think of it. Thanks in advance.

I'm using Mosets Tree for Mambo. It's not bad... I don't know if I'd say it's a good deal for the money, but it gets the job done.
