Default Becoming an agent?

Hey Everyone!

This is actually something I have thought about for quite some time. Probably since I started at REW.

In all my time here I have yet to discover the steps one would take to become a Real Estate Agent. What kind of schooling do you need? Anyone willing to explain the process?

it is different per area. i did my classes in 4 days online. Most people sit in class for 6 weeks. The problem is you dont use most of the info they teach you.

Becoming an agent is like learning how to play chess. The rules of the game are easy but it takes a lot of effort and intelligence to be good at it.

Go on google and search for real estate classes in your area. Find your state's real estate commission website and they should have that info too.

Class prices probably differ from location to location but typically cost around $300 - $600.

In my area I took a three month class that met for 4 hours twice a week.

If you can pass high school you can pass these classes. It was easy as pie.

Some classes are held by brokerages like coldwell banker, you can also find classes offered by community colleges.

Good luck!

It's just like anything else, the more time and effort you put into the larger your rewards will be. The difficult part begins after you pass the class and get the license.

It only takes about a week to become licensed but on average it takes close to a year to really know what you are doing and start making a decent income. This timeframe can be reduced depending on how much general sales experience you already have, how well you know your market and how big your contact list already is.

Nick -

Every local "board" has different requirements, but education / testing for REALTOR licensing will be pretty much the same across BC.

Try bcrea.bc.ca/about/member_boards.htm and get a hold of someone from your local board (likely Vancouver Island Real Estate Board or Victoria Real Estate Board).

BTW - BC licensing will take considerably longer than "just a week" - you're likely looking at somewhere around 200 hrs of class time *give or take*. Cost for the course / tests / licensing will run you about $3,500 Cdn

About 3-4 years ago I was looking into do this Nick....and the person I talked to about a Real Estate Licensing Course said it was $350 and i think it was a couple of months. Ofcourse, im sure everyone around here will be different, and im sure that a lot has changed since i last looked into it. It is a tempting opportunity to try if you have the beginning capital to start out with.

I guess it depends on your area. In florida the classroom time is 63 hours which I did in exactly 6 straight days. If you want to do it while maintaining your full-time job then it can take six weeks.
