Default Optimal Word Count & Web Page Copy Length

Do whatever you need to in order to keep your social currency. Use your market influence to push other profitable business ventures (perhaps indirectly).

That is an excellent article.

I especially agree with the value of writing longer posts, as opposed to short blurbs or breaking up articles into paged sections.

I've always disliked clicking a link to read the second or third part of an article (howstuffworks is one website that bothers me to no end, although I understand its reasons.)

I don't think he mentioned it since he was focusing on the SEO benefits, but longer posts also lead to readers bookmarking articles more often, which is great for generating return traffic and eventually a loyal readership/clients.

Killer. I have been criticized, by my peers, for my wordy (long) home page but I have been reluctant to change because clients compliment it. I am vindicated at last.

Now to make it purdy.

As long as your clients like it. Who cares about what anybody else thinks? Until your peers pay your bills I'll stick with what your clients have to say.

Friends' opinions simply don't matter unless they are looking to buy real estate from you. I completely agree with Dan here. I also have a "wordy" site, but we sell millions of dollars in real estate every year from website leads and clients.

Informative article! i think its better to write for the reader and work hard on off-page optimisation. Otherwise, what good is a visitor who only stays 5 seconds?

I've always thought it best to break up really long pages into several. To me it like reading from a scroll as compared to a book. A scroll is easy to get lost in and it is difficult to find something. If there are 3 pages instead of one really long one, I think it is easier for a user to find what they need.

Hi Sam,

I agree with you. My current sites homepage looks like a hodge podge. I need to break it up with h2's and h3's.

Great link, I tend to like the longer pages as well.
