Default Anchor Text Strategy

OK, so when you set out to do your link exchanges...

Do you do them ALL with the same anchor text? Or do you mix it up a little?

How do you know when you have it right? What if you put out a hundred links, and you decide that it's time to do a different keyword? Do you change the existing links, do new ones to the same places, or put new ones at new sites?

Or are you never supposed to change keywords/anchortext?

I mix it up a little, This helps keep things looking natural IMO. If you have more than one page that you want to show up in the SERP's why not have some links direct to that page? There has to be more than one term you are targeting why not change it up a little?

Is there a easy answer to this NO, but my thought is that the more natural the links look the better. This leads me to believe that changing keywords and pages that you have other link to is better. I will be experimenting this and other ideas on some sites that I am working on. By the time the experiment is done, I am sure Google will change the rules on me.

You definetly want to keep it mixed up a bit.....

I suggest kepping them all keword themed - not the exact keyword....

Like

Keyword

keyword site
all about keywords
cheap keywords

your still cathing the theme while targeting plurals, conjuntions, etc... and mixing it up

Its a good topic.

It seems with me, the keyword I targeted I can not get off the second page of Google. But, I noticed in logs that I have been on the first page of Google and on a few instances number one for just as important keywords. Its pretty funny. Maybe I am penalized?????? But would State Farm Insurance be penalized if it had 1000 links as State Farm Insurance?

Personal experience, my first link text was Virginia Home Mortgage Lender. I feel that worked the best as I am found on first page results with many variations of related searches. Some people do not agree that works. But add LOANS to any of portion of the above text and I am on the first or second page.

Hi CafeMonkey

If I'll be in your shoes I'll chose some basic keywords first and then I'll use them all the time in anchors, may be adding from time to time a new keyword, but keepin the basic ones. I have a sad experience changing keywords all the time

Let me give an example to help illustrate:

Let's say my site is on the subject of commercial real estate financing. I'd use the following:

Commercial Real Estate Financing
Loans for Commercial Properties
Real Estate Lenders for Commercial Property
Commercial Property Funding
Lending on Commmercial Real Estate
Commercial Loans
Commercial Real Estate
Commercial Funding for Real Estate

Keep it mixed up, throw in related but not targeted terms. Think of how bloggers might link to your site naturally and try to use your preffered phrase between 20-30% of the time. The rest of the time mix it up between 10-12 different formats and combinations. Don't neccessarily stick to only the terms you need, and remember that you don't need every term in every piece of anchor text. When you don't use it, try to surround the tag or at least have the other text on the page somewhere.
