If I am 1099 on the short sale difference and have to pay taxes, can I assume that the bank is writing off that difference as a lost on there taxes. Would there be any purpose to pay that balance back to them some day. Or are they just writing that difference of as a lost on there taxes and in he end it will really not hurt them.
