I have been using AVG free antivirus software (which is no longer free). Any tips on good antivirus programs, (I have had bad experiences with Norton) to replace it? I need something that will give me affordable licencing for 4 computers in a network.

Just yesterday, I installed the new, free version

avg75free_441a944.exe

for one of my customers.

But first, I un-installed the older AVG (free) using Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs

My recommendation would be to go with Kaspersky Anti Virus. It's consistently rated in the top few of av's and it's active protection is the best going. Norton is a complete joke. Kaspersky is the best thing going right now and it can be purchased online (full license) for about 40 bucks. I have been using it for about 1/2 a year nowand no blips whatsoever it has nuked evenrything nasty that has come along...5 stars no complaints

I put bit defender on a machine a few weeks ago, and have been generally impressed. They also give you two licenses (two computers) for two years, for about $50.

I have been using nod 32 for over a year now and I love it. Doesn't hog up resources.

The other day I was at the local community college and was chatting with their IT guys and they are currently transitioning all of their stuff over to nod 32.

That helped confirm it's good.
