I'm using javscript for a menu which basically changes the jpg imgs at a mouseover. The idea occured to me the neet effect it would be if the second pic would be a flash pic instead of the jpg. This sounds simple, just rename the extensions in the javascript code and replace the jpg images with swf images.
Would this work? Doing this wouldn't require any link function in the flash image either, right, as the javascript uses the image region as the click area? It seems like it would also act as a sort of preloader too, wouldn't it, as the swfs wouldn't need to load until after the rest of the page loaded. Would that loading sequence happen by default or would it need some code to tell the browser not to load swfs until loading the rest of the page? Their small files so it wouldn't be a huge difference. Last edited by RESynergy; 03-01-2007 at 09:36 AM. |

Why mix js and flash? Wouldn't it be easier to build and load the entire menu as flash?
As a side note, I personally am not a big fan of flash nav since certain percentage of the site visitors don't have flash installed and they can't navigate the site unless you have a detection/redirect in place.

I guess the basic question would come down to whether a browser could handle a swf extension with a few animations in it if the user hadn't installed flash? Perhaps I just need to replace the jpgs with animated gifs instead of flash to get the effect I am talking about. |
