I just noticed today that my website dropped from the first page to the bottom of the sixth page in Google for "Toronto real estate". This is horrible! What am I doing wrong? Anyone has any answers?
And - do links have any value any more? And I mean links to related sites?... Nothing seems to have any value, the content - of which I have a whole lot... ![]()

Links are incredibly important, as is content - it just depends on the "quality" of each, especially on the links side.
Are you only doing peer to peer link exchange? What about writing articles for distribution on the web? Directories? Press releases? Blogging on platforms like REW Blogs and Active Rain? Also is your content 100% unique on your website? Certainly that side and top navigation on your site is not search engine friendly.

My content is unique, at least what I make available. But there are some articles that were provided by WebTechDezine for everyone to use - should I delete these? I don't need any supplied content, I have enough of my own... With regards to the top (and side) navigation, there is nothing I can do in this case. I have two other HTML websites which I built myself and have complete control. But they are considerably newer (one was developed at the beginning of March this year, the other in October 2005, during previous serious update).

Don't go doing anything just yet. You just noticed the change today?
Have a beer, or a valium depending upon your personality, and let the dust settle. If you're still out of the mix in a few days start digging into the similarities between your site and others that dropped. (assuming you're familiar with the results over the last month or so) One of the worst things you can do, IMO, is to just start making a bunch of changes that you're not going to be able to evaluate effectiveness of. If you've been doing the right things for the right reasons, you may be surprised to find that your site ends up right about where it started. Keep in mind... SEO is a marathon, not a sprint. Patience is not only a virtue, it's a requirement.

Make sense?Take a look at www.bostoncondoguy.com, and notice our top navigation is all text based.

Marisha -
Further to what Boston Condo Guy mentioned above, take a look at the cached text for your homepage: http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:...GLG:en&strip=1 I hate to be brutal, but I'm wondering how you ever made it to page 1 of Google for the term "toronto real estate". The term itself (which I'm guessing you'd like to be one of your keywords) is only mentioned twice on the entire page, and with little or no context. Not to mention you have no header tags anywhere on the page <h1, h2, hx> Your domain obviously has some authority (time, backlinks?) so I'm guessing some reworking of the page content is now required Last edited by Calgary Agent; 04-02-2007 at 07:51 PM. |

I'm panicing as well. I moved from position 8 dallas real estate to position 51-57, depending on the hour. Should I sit this one out, or start making some changes. I reguraly post articles, blogs, etc on active rain, rew, etc and add unique content to website daily. One thing I was wondering,I have other sites that have similar content but not the same would this hurt my rankings? Also, does it hurt that I have Contact Us on my homepage leading to point2website for contact form?
I'm really worried about this dramatic decrease in rankings. I haven't been below 15 in last year, and now on page 5
