If you have a site that ranks for all terms other then the main 3, and they all rank on the first page dsoes that mean that good things are on the way for your main keywords

Depends on the competitiveness of the secondary or tertiary terms, and the competitiveness of the main terms. There is no right answer to this question as it is to vague, but generally improvements in rankings on smaller terms mean an increase in authority which is a good thing.
