I just wanted to get comments/opinions on Google SketchUp. I did a quick trial of it and think it could be very usefull for off plan sales.

yeah sorry, heres the link: http://sketchup.google.com/ . It's a great free tool for 3d modeling. Also there are already a lot of city models in their warehouse.

I work in Overseas Property or International Real Estate to you guys in the U.S. Usually we sell developments off plan, i.e. they havent been built yet (usually 1-2 year build), so we sell them based on architects plans, 3d demo's , artists interpretations etc. This is off plan sales.

Ah, that's cool! Then yes, I think Sketchup is a fantastic tool to showcase your product. It sure beats looking at a 2D floor plan, I'll tell you that for sure. I've experimented with it, and it's quite user friendly. I know that if you were to sit and play with it enough, you could become quite good in little time.

Yeah I'm starting to pick up the localized terms after reading through the forum posts, I plan to be fully multilingual by the end of the year!

The thing I really like about sketch up besides the fact that its free, is the ease of use. Within 30mins I had the basics down.

That's funny, I have spent half of past night working with Sketchup, in fact we are making the plans of our future home - or at least trying to get some ideas before sending all this to the architect.

Well, at the beginning it was not easy to understand how it works, it's simple interface quite disappointed me as I had little previous experience with 3DSmax or Maya with buttons and tools everywhere. After a couple of days of 'playing' with it, I can now draw homes very quickly and that's very cool for us because we can have a quick preview of our house if we say 'hey let's try with this kind of roof' etc... I think also that can be a good software if you would like to build a 3D view of existing homes and that you don't have the skills to do it with traditionnal 3D software.

A pretty good tool for us and our needs. And guess who owns it ?! Yeah another smart move from Google the day they adquired this...
