Default Custom Sites built on Template Framework?

Quick question guys: Are the REW custom sites built on the framework of the $1000 templates? In other words: Are the custom sites simply a fully custom looking (cosmetically) template site, with the same back end for adding content, menus, links, etc?

The framework and the CMS are 2 completely different things. So no, they are not.

In template sites, we already have all the css, html, flash etc done, and all we do is change out the slide show, change a psd file or 2, and apply whatever color combo that was selected.

With customs, they start at the comp or mockup phase - you have a consultation with your designer, they create a comp in photoshop based on the information you provide, they send it to you for review, and they adjust (In photoshop) as necessary until you have your custom site design laid out exactly the way you want it. You then then approve that comp, and the designer splices (Cuts) it into html and CSS (This is unique css / html not framework that is created to accomodate your custom design)

Example with a new client, Jason and his wife have ordered a custom (They are working with Phil) they had a few emails back and forth as well as a phone call. Based on the information provided, Phil has created the first mockup located at http://comps.rewdev.com/pollack/mockup.html - He will now send this mockup for review, they can approve it, request changes, or tell him to start from scratch if they feel he has completely missed the mark (Most of the time, our comps aren't rejected, just changes or tweaks are requested) - once jason and his wife approve this mockup, it will get cut up, all the flash, programming etc required to make it come to life will be applied and presto new custom site.

Now this site (As with all REW hosted sites) WILL be powered by the same backend (Content management system) as the templates. So they will manage their content in the same way as templates do.

To further this point, view the source of these 4 different REW customs

www.thesarasotamls.com
www.finehomesofhiltonhead.com
www.rexre.com
www.prestonguyton.com

You will notice they are very different.

Thanks for clearing that up, Morgan. That answered my question completely.

I'm excited about next month. I like Jason's design - simplicity and elegance is what I get from it.

yeah, it is really nice to have a client that wants to get a little creative - a lot of our customs end up going the same direction and I think people are under the mistaken impression that is because our designers are one dimensional, and nothing could be farther from the truth - the problem is a client (Realtor) ends of falling in love with one of our previous designs (Usually thesarastoamls.com lol) and we end up actually having to talk them away from the design so that they do not infringe on Marc's copyright (We won't copy a custom) - it's actually a real pain in the ass and my poor designers lol - Can't fault them though, they see it ranking #1, they have likely called Marc and asked him if he is happy with his site, and they have pretty much made up their mind before we even talk to them grrr

That is why it is really nice to take the occasional local site on, just as a side project, so that we can get creative again. Like here is one in Nanaimo where we live that we are just finishing up http://www.forestandmarine.com - just waiting on some final content etc, a really nice change Incidentally, if you ever wondered what REW headquarters looked like, that is our building

Working on some new comps for tourism nanaimo as well http://dev3.nanaimodev.com/comps/homepage.html
http://dev3.nanaimodev.com/comps/visitor.html
http://dev3.nanaimodev.com/comps/resident.html

So hey man, if you are willing to let the guys get creative WICKED! We will love ya for it

Hell yes! Creative is my thing man. I'm the kind of person that's like, "If I'm going to invest 5,000+ in a site, let's make it original, memorable, and lets cross the lines of tradition.

I love Marc's site, sure, though want to go in a completely different direction.

Your building is sweet, man! Did you guys take it over or is that one you guys had an architect design?

EDIT: Literally, I'll probably tell whatever designer you assign me to, surprise me, lol.

I think as long as REW doesn't cook up a creative creation like this site, I'll be fine.

The worst part is, it probably has a few thousand dollars worth of SEO optimization.

By the way Morgan, nice building. Looks like a horrible place to work!
