What do you do when someone is using blackhat seo techniques by linking to you from bad neighborhoods? Does this have an effect on you? Will you be penalized or are you only penalized when you link to them? If you are penalized how do you get around it? Do you use a 301 redirect?

If that's true, time to go an hour to make a geocities page with as many porn animated gifs as possible, and link to all my competitors.

It's ridiculous to think that whoever links to you can penalize you, since you don't have control over it. You can get links, but someone can link to you without you realizing it.
