Exclamation Google PR downgrade

Hello again everyone. I just noticed that both of my ranking websites as well as my competitors had their PR lowered by one point. Anyone knows what is happening? I am already out of my wits!

There seems to be a lot going on with PR and rankings lately. I think we won't know for sure until all of this settles down and we can compare with each other to derive conclusions.

Both Bob Wilson (sdhomes) and WebGuerrilla (Greg Boser) are very good. I would have also included (Webmaster) Morgan Carey except last week when I was in his office he said that was not his emphasis anymore. Did I understand you correctly MC?

There is absolutely no correlation between fluctuations in your SERPs and any update in toolbar PR you might be seeing.

It also isn't accurate to call it a PR downgrade. Instead, think of it as a recalibration. Because true PR is logarithmic, each notch on a PR toolbar represents a range of scores. As the web grows, the overall numbers increase, so from time to time the range of scores that each number on the toolbar represents changes.

When that happens, pages that were on the bubble in terms of their scores can easily drop one number on the toolbar, even though their true PR has actually increased. This process has happened many times over the lifespan of PR. It isn't any big deal.

I've read elsewhere in these forums (and happen to agree) that search rankings are more important than toolbar ranking. In the last week, my PR went down by half or 1, but I slid up a notch in G search results to #5.

From what I've seen, the effect on SERPS pretty much always preceds what you might see in the tool bar or backlinks.

Isn't the average pr of the web always supposed to be 1?
