I am relatively new to some of the more advanced linking strategies and understand that many people are getting rid of their state pages and their respective recips. Some mention keeping some of those good links and just doing a contextual link. Please explain...

In the larger scope, it basically refers to providing a page of unique content, relevant and on topic to another webmaster for publication on their website - in return for writing this content as a guest author, the author gets a backlink to their website, typically a you would offer the same opportunity to the guest author to publish on of your articles with one of your links.

The premise is quality vs quantity, and while often times this results in a reciprocal relationship, the benefits and motives are not "strictly" link driven, so it is a much more acceptable mode of linking.

Of course it does not have to be recip, you might just be a terrible writer, and someone may offer to write a couple of pages of content for your website for you on the condition that they are given a credit for work link.

Got it! The name should have been a dead give away but you know how some of these terms can be way out there in terms of what it really means.

Just to make sure there are no rules getting broke here, If I wanted to solicit content for a backlink what forum would that be done in?

It wouldn't, we do not allow link solicitation in public forums - keeps the baddies out We do have a private forum for link development, and all you have to do is be a good member for a while and show that your concern is making your website the best it can be, then PM me and I can give you access.
