There is no set standard. It is my understanding that originating a price standard or furthering its continuance would be considered "Price-Fixing."

Depends on what you're going after. In commercial real estate loans, it cn be between 2 and 5 points to the broker. In residential, it's usually much less, and most people don't use a broker - they go direct to the lender (bank).

I was assuming he meant real estate broker's fees, but maybe it was mortgage broker fees. ResaleBroker is correct that a real estate broker can't set fees and they range pretty widely. In Illinois I've seen as low as 0% for the listing side (but you have to use their title company & sometimes attorney & other services) up to 10% total for certain properties. Although I always suggest to my clients that they shouldn't offer less than 2.5% (cooperating commission to the seller broker) in the MLS I've been seeing lower cooperating commissions lately, like 2%.
