Default realtor steals from home

I have a question. Just recently we had a realtor come through to show our house, but she didnt have any customers. She went through my house and took perscription medication from us. We caught her on video doing this and we filed a complaint with the commission. The realtor agency fired her along with her husband and revocked their license due to a history of drug rehab. Is this all that is going to happen in this case? What will the commission due since the realtor stole from us?

Great job having the video going and in place. It's a shame that things like that can happen.

Has the information been turned over to the police?? They are the main ones that are going to take it further.

While I am sorry for your plight, that is pretty funny. An agent stealing meds...

I looked at your profile but didn't see a state. In Georgia we have GREC, Georgia Real Estate Commission. They administer license law for the state. I imagine each state has something similiar.

There are provisions for law breaking under license law, but that probably will not be applicable to your case. You should have filed a police report and prosecuted for theft. Go ahead and contact the police and see what they have to say.

There are pathetic people in every profession. Baseball, Sports, Politics, Law, Accounting, Business, and so on. You name a profession, there are going to be some bad people in it. Real Estate Agents have to preview houses, and you met one of the bad ones.

It's a criminal offense. You need to report it to the police. They should/will prosecute it as breaking and entering or burglary or something.

Second avenue is civil court. You can sue for damages and whatever other "injuries" you sustained. (I'm afraid to use realtor's now, give me some extra money because it will be harder to sell my house.)

The third approach is to file a complaint with the broker, the appropriate state agency, the local board of realtors, the National Association of Realtors. If your diligent, you can pretty much insure that they never work in RE again. You can also sue the broker for damages.

I agree, forget the Real Estate Commission, they are small time anyway. Go straight to the police.

I absolutely belive you should report them to the commission. They will lose their license. Do not forget to go to the police also. There is no excuse for this, they occupy a position of trust, Prosecute. Yes the conviction may cost the license, but why not make sure?

The broker already fired the agent and her husband as soon as this was brought to their attention. (If I read the original post correctly) I really don't think they should sue the broker. There is not much actual financial loss to recover anyway.

The only thing left you can do is go to the police - that is probably what I would do first in a situation like that.

Why would the husband get fired if he had nothing to do with it? I understand the wife getting fired because she was the one that stole. Either way I don't see any reason for the husband being affected by this.

Because both agents are independent contractors working for the broker. If the wife stole, chances are the husband did/does also and just hasn't been caught. There's also a good possibility that he knew of the situation. Furthermore, they most likely work as a "team" as most husbands/wives do (we do). The wife's actions were on representative of the team and the whole team was shown the door.

While technically they can't be "fired", the broker can choose to no longer hold their license thus leaving them unable to practice. The Board of Realtors can revoke membership and the state can revoke their license which will prevent them from practicing RE again. This is all perfectly legal and common. If I were the broker, I'd drop both those losers in a second. They're a HUGE legal liability, bad for your PR and bad for office morale.
