Squidoo pages are spidered very regularly and rank very well on their own. If you create one, make sure that you make something a consumer will be interested in reading and using. Many people have them ranking on the first page for city real estate...

Yes its well worth your time to build a few lens then blog about them in a few places, then post about them in a couple forums. This will get them spidered and ranking in no time.
