Wouldn't it be cool to get some sort of joint blog on Real Estate issues going between 10 or so realtors here, each spending some time on a topic. wouldn't kind of cut down on the problem of having to many blogs to update like Nuhome was commenting on in a seperate post.
I had thought of that a little but was unsure how to get it going. Nothing against REW or anything, just was trying to think of something to do that would be a different source. Jim

I would be interested, of course I would want to look over the blogs as they are now and get a feel for what is already there, and understand if I can write about anything I want real estate wise or what. Not that I am looking to right bad stuff, just helps me to think when I see what is there already.
Jim

Anyone can start a forum or a group blog, and post content to it, however without authority there is little to no benefit.

Jim;
Fair warning--long post ahead. --And I am on a rant. (You've been warned )You got me thinking...and Morgan helped with that last post about authority. There are only two ways on the web to be effective in building your authority. AND if you aren't building Authority you really are just whistling Dixie. #1--You can join a conversation with your fellow industry mates and lift the level of conversation. This can build authority quickly, BUT to do it effectively and efficiently, you need to be seen in the highest authority places (the right crowd) read: REW for us REALTOR types. I agree with Morgan about Without authority, inside baseball (or real estate-grin) conversations are pretty pointless--because basically we are getting credit for helping each other learn. Might as well get the MOST credit (read: Authority), no? The MOST credit for that is on site that G! has deemed to be authority sites for real estate (ummm...like here for example.) Can you find a better place? Not IMO. #2--You can do what Morgan did for us and face the CONSUMER and provide THEM a place where THEY feel comfortable, open and where they can communicate their needs and wants, etc. We ARE Morgan's and REW's consumers. The genius of his approach was to create an environment where his customers were empowered, learned and kept each other going and it became a community. (and a damn fine one.) JMO--If you want to involve others in a blog, -It would be nicer to group blog LOCALLY with people other than REALTORS yet who are still in the same types of businesses --Builders, Mortgage pros, Remodellers, Investers, prop management folks, etc, etc.... Face it towards the customer and CREATE something. Put something together that will involve, inspire and open the CUSTOMER to communicate with you. Make it freakin irresistable. You will find that it is pretty hard to do, but worth it. (I'm not there yet by any means-but IMO this needs to be the goal.) And we come here to REW and get drawn in --in a positive way! And I quote from one of my favorite Webmaster lines--like handing Smartees to fat kids-- The real estate consumer does as well. We can't fall for the notion that our industry is so commoditized that "folks just want to look at houses on our website...that's all we have and there is nothing else." It ain't the case...They have tons of information. They want truth from people that they trust to provide it. QUOTE=SummitNJ-Realtor;113499]Wouldn't it be cool to get some sort of joint blog on Real Estate issues going between 10 or so realtors here, each spending some time on a topic. Jim[/quote] To keep and gain authority over the long haul we have to BE the authority to our consumers. That involves getting exposure to them and providing them with INFORMATION that is accurate, timely and what they NEED. (No different than REW does for us...) The great part about this place is that you have BOTH opportunities in one place...you can communicate with the BEST and most web savvy in the real estate business. You also can turn around and blog on REW blogs and get exposure to your customers in RECORD time...I think that is a huge reason why much of the REW blogs needs to be Customer facing and why we need to avoid the temptation to turn them into link farms when they are such a SOLID way to get First Class exposure to our customers. If I misunderstood what you were going for Jim, my apologies. I just think the future of his industry belongs to people who can master the two ways of gaining tust and authority. The money will follow. It always has. Best; Eric
