I know that the main way to increase the popularity of your blog is to post frequently and to act as an authority on certain subjects so that people will link to you, thus giving you the one-way (popularity vote). Aside from that what is everyone doing in the way of directory submittal or anything else for that matter to gain backlinks to their blogs? If you are submitting to directories or rss feed directories which ones have you found to be the best (free or paid).
On a side note, the REW blog is awesome. I have found that the very next day after a post I can do a long tail search specific to the blog post and it will be on the first page of Google. Seems like the google bot camps out at REW
