Question HTML question - drawing a blank

Evening All!

I know there is a way to build a bit of html code - such as a menu - and then insert that file into another html page. That way you can edit the one file and change a menu, for example, on all pages.

I can not, for the life of me, remember how to do it or find a reference to show me.

Thanks for any helping jogging my damaged mind!!

SSI... server side includes. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...=Google+Search

Generally with html pages the extension is .shtml but I think theres a simple modification on the server that will allow you to use includes files with .html extensions.

If you're using .php, .asp etc. there's no need to worry about the extensions.

Just do a search on CSS and all will be revealed.

SSI are indeed wonderful things, I use them for common headers and footers as well as menus. Check your hosting control panel first and see if you need to change anything to allow includes to work. I run an H-Sphere hosting system and in that CP you have to turn on SSI and add the file extensions you want to use as includes. It's been a while since I looked in cPanel, but I seem to recall something similar in there as well. In Plesk I think it needs to be enabled in the hosting plan, I don't see a way to do that from the user CP in the one Plesk account I manage. In Ensim... if you're on Ensim, I just recommend you find another host.
