Default MAC vs. PC

I've been using a pc laptop with a windows operating system in my business for almost 4 years. Much of my business runs online (quickbooks, top producer, REW backend, etc.) and I use windows applications such as excel, word and publisher as well. My team also uses outlook to manage e-mail through Top Producers Outlook Connector.

So...I need a new laptop and I really want to go with a MAC. Can anyone offer some feedback on this? I'm a bit intimidated to make the leap even though I've heard I can use bootcamp or parrallel to run Windows if I must have it. I would need it for Outlook, I suppose.

Personally I like Macs. They are alot more clean as far as the organization. The problem is the Austin MLS software doesnt work on macs. Its wierd. You would think with that large of a client base they would have it work on macs as well as the PC. So anyway before you get a mac I would make sure the MLS software you use runs on a mac.

A lot of the people that seem to "know" what they are doing - like Macs.

Of course, since they know what they are doing, they can usually "make things work" when they encounter a problem with something that prefers Windows.

Since I'm ignorant in most respects - I use Windows. I figure if I run into a problem - someone else will have too, and then a fix would get put in.

I think MAC`s are a lot more popular in the States? I have never used one personally because they are not compatible with most software that I use, I would like to test one though the screen shots I`ve seen look impressive.

I use both....

I game on my PC... I do graphic design on both... and I let my friends family get on the mac to surf the internet.. since I don't want them messing up my gaming computer

I was raised on macs.... around when the Imacs came out.. I got my first PC (AMD K-6 i.e. a Pentium 1) with Windows 98SE. Ever since then... been more towards PC's, only because I like to play games on them

The current distribution of computers that are Mac's is between 5-10%, somewhat higher in laptops. Because of this, not as much software works on Macs. There are some important software packages that are specifically programmed to run on OS X including Microsoft Office. Whether this version of Office has all of the functionality of the Windows version remains to be seen. Two significant advantages are as a casual machine (very few virii target it and the interface is very well designed) and for multimedia designers (most image and video editing tools are designed first to run and to run best on OS X).

When the next version of OS X comes out, it should come with a piece of software called Boot Camp that will allow you to have both Windows XP and OS X on the same machine. Expect to see some system makers online offering both operating systems pre-installed.

For business applications I would definitely run Windows. For design I would definitely love OS X. For servers and programming I would run Linux (but that's another story entirely).

I thought the new macs have a duo processor that allows you to run windows and os x? I am ready to make the change to macs but am leery.

I saw the mac number and though I would do a little checking. I pulled up the vistor sites from my website and look at the platform breakdown. Based on the number of visit here are the results.

Total Visits = 52,400
Spiders/bots = 21,576 (41%)
Windows XP = 19,683 (38%)
Unknown = 7,393 (14%)
Win NT = 1,515 (3%)
Win 2000 = 834 (2%)
Mac OS X = 531 (1%)

I do not know if the MAC is running Windows ontop of the MAC OS, how that is counted. But at least in this area, Mac use appears to be at 1%.

MAC's are gaining popularity,

I find that the younger generations who have grown up with the Internet prefer MAC's while a lot of older people seem to prefer PC's.

PC's are great for Data processing etc but if you want to get creative, visually or musically a MAC is where its at!

I have been a MAC user since I was introduced to them in College, My Teachers and peers all swore by them and now I do to.

And if you are talking about the intel based macs.. if it's running windows, it's counted as a PC, since it is running windows.. not os x. It's just a processor that can handle either OS.

You could also get softwindows... I remember using that back in the day.. but I'm sure bootcamp is better lol.

Or get you can get basilisk on your pc.. to emulate mac!

Both handle office, both can surf the web. If you use MLS software (mine down here is web/java based) you want to check that, but there will be a work around for something that big.

You want to choose the system that looks good, has the stats you want, and fits in your price range.
