Default Kicking the habit :-) I need help, Linux users!

I just made the plunge. It is a hard habit to break, but this move by Microsoft to yet another version (Vista) got me to make the break (plus my PC died and I had to rebuild anyway).

I'm going through all the typical withdrawal symptoms (how to load programs, language, syntax, figuring out reality, etc) but one issue is about to get me.

I used to use the free html editor called htmlkit. I was sort of shocked to find out they didn't make a Linux version, especially since it is free.

I'm always using it so now I am reallly lost without it.

Does anyone know a good free or cheap Linux editor?

Thanks

Quanta Plus and Screem are the two that came with my the distro I installed.

I used them for a bit - but couldn't get away from Zend Studios. It costs $ but I like it the best.

You could try Nvu -- it's actually designed for Linux.

So I dont know if this is an option or not. You can use VI to edit anything on linux. Once you get to know it its pretty fast. 5 years ago some of my friends forced me to use it. And I have not regretted it. Its a general text editor but it has billion shortcuts.

If you're hoping for something a bit more GUI-ish you might look into Bluefish (bluefish. openoffice. org) as an html editor, or for more general purpose, you could try NEdit (www. nedit. org) though they need X Windows.

Thanks for all the replies everyone.

I tried NVU but it has a nasty habit, it seems, of forcing me to include html code in the page. That doesn't make sense but I believe I've checked every setting it has. Other than that, it seems all right. I'm going to give Quanta Plus and Screem a gander too. I can do it with a text editor but the bells and whistles are nice if I can get em.
