Default Very strange registered letter

I had a mail man stop by the office today with a registered letter that required my signature. It was from someone in Sonora, Mexico. I opened it, afraid that it might have something strange inside, and found a letter offering a for sale by owner 3600 acre piece of real estate with 11,000 yards of water frontage. Has anyone else gotten wierd stuff liek this?

Heh. No.

Very expensive way to market a property I'd think.

Though, it probably does ensure that persons will at least read your entire marketing material.

Maybe that is the only way to make sure it gets to you from Mexico?

I have received a few letters like that lately, but they have been from Mortgage companies? also seems like a pretty expensive marketing plan.

There was an article in todays paper here about smugglers processing "contraband" in the form of paper. Apparently, all you have to do is run it through a shreddder to get the "real deal".

Considering you can't own land in Mexico unless you are a citizen, I wouldn't waste too much time pondering it.

Sam - I haven't ever received a certified letter as a marketing piece that I can remember, but I did get a letter from a prisoner wanting me to help him start a "modeling agency" many years ago. Obviously, he tried to present himself as a legitimate businessman and he offered my partner and I a huge cash bonus to help him find property and to send him names and photos of girls that would fit his desired criteria. Basically, this was before the days of online predators, and I guess it was a creative attempt on his part. He used homemade letterhead with a photo of himself Xeroxed on it.

We ended up tracing the address by calling the post office in the town of origin (I think it was in Kentucky), and they confirmed that it was the local federal penitentiary. I ended up having to speak with the FBI office there a number of times, as this guy was about to be paroled and the letters he sent were good evidence to keep him locked up.

The best part is that he found our information in a Robb Report ad. If you are not familiar with it, it's a magazine for the super-wealthy, and we had placed a couple of our listings in there. Who knew that federal prisoners read Robb Report? I doubt that the magazine would publish that in their reader demographics.
