Default Buying a Laptop Tablet

I'm ready to buy a laptop for my business and I've heard the Tablet PC's are the way to go.

Does anyone have one and how do you like it? What's the best one to buy considering I want to use it as my main PC at work as well.

Thanks for any inpput!

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 and love it - it cost me around $800. It's not a tiny tablet, I cannot type on those, nor read the text on the really tiny ones! This one is lightweight and has enough storage and a big enough screen for me, and a full sized keyboard.

Thanks for the reply.

Do you use it for presentations a lot and signing contracts? Or does it function mostly as a mobile PC for you?

Good article from someone at Microsoft who claims to be a 'tablet evangelist'.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...11tabvlap.mspx

What I got from it is you can't treat it like a PC to get the most out of a tablet. Use it in slate mode (without a keyboard) to get used to the way Windows for the tablet is different than regular XP. Keep in mind that you are spending more for the same features (horsepower, memory, disk space, and things like DVD-burners), so make sure you are buying it for the tablet features. If you are truly on-the-go, a tablet can become an incredible business partner.

I have a Toshiba Satellite and so far it works great. The only issue I have had is that you have to be gentle with the screen, they dent and it leaves a mark. The ability to sign documents in the field is great.

I don't think tablet technology is quite here yet. I just bought new HP dv6000and it does everything a real estate agents needs. I was about to buy new tablet, but when comparing specs to regular laptop, I found laptop to be much more affordable with better features. I paid $1300.00, could have bought a simple tablet for this price, but plan on waiting until technology improves and price drops. Besides you can draw contracts just about anywhere these days and is much easier to send client pdf contract to review and have them sign and fax back. Most buyers don't want to be pressured into signing a contract on the spot as well, although I have run into a couple of situations this year where a buyer was ready to sign before we even walked out on 1st appointment. I explained it would be good for them to think over and make sure they were wanting to move foward, and I would have contracts to them within the hour.
