I would be interested in knowing more about this as well. I really need to spend more time on learning financial market stuff.

Hi Jason

I've been investing since i was 12, believe i know something about the market.
most of the things you need to know are freely available online, via magazines or the bookstores .. the way i started, i just one day got bored started reading the business section of the newspaper, tried to understand the ticker symbols and from that day one, i was addicted to the stock market ..

but it's an ongoing learning exp and one can never run out of things to learn.
ive never though i needed to hide my money from uncle sam (paying tax), but as one grows older and thinking of early retirement, one need to do just that.

if you want to learn something about the market or get the general idea of it, try going to the motley fools site, they are fun and have followed them since they began day one, or study/read about warren buffet.

most of the stock exchange have free literature about how to invest in the market so visit them

Thanks for the tips! I have heard of the Motley Fools before, and I have read a few articles they have written, but I have never seriously invested in the stock market (mainly just stock options from my wife's job back when she was working a few years ago).

I agree about the taxes - it really is a lot, isn't it?

another alt for stocks is tax lien, it's part of the business and you probably feel more comfortable buying them since you're in the business also. doesnt matter if home goes into foreclosures, tax lien will get paid somehow since it's one of those priority liens ... but nothing like making money in stocks if you want to be a little/more aggressive

Taxes almost killed me 3 years ago from my real estate earnings and huge capital gains, almost wasnt worth making money that year just to throw it away to old sammy guy ... but i've learned some tricks to lessen my burden to uncle sam

How do you locate tax liens? I guess I could Google it, but I figured you must know about it already. This does sound like an interesting opportunity.

Tax Lien are mortly run by individual county, you can search your county website for tax lien/tax deed sales, the majority of them holds a sale once or twice a year only ... some texas county sale liens twice yearly. some lien sale are now online but only a few in such as the one in florida (forgot which one)

I have most of my docs on my other harddrive regarding tax lien info - but that one crashed and i just needed to take it to have recovered

or head to the book store and find books about them - not much of them out but they are worth reading about. I don't recommend buying tax liens of commercial property w/o properly researching since you might be buying toxic land or something. pretty much residential tax lien are safe, but read the law and stuff about them, some of them if they don't pay in certain years, you can foreclosed on, but rarely since banks will buy home first before that happens, but you could get lucky in todays market

Tax Lien Info

I don't pay much attn to tax deed since it requires more start up capital than tax liens ...
