Default Oooops...house wasn't abandoned after all...

So I was driving around this Sunday to get a newspaper and saw a really interesting house that looked abandoned and figured it was for sale. Windows were all taped up and no one lived there. So I went home, grabbed my girlfriend and we drove back to take a look at it. After walking around the outside I saw that the back door was open and there was just a little piece of chain wrapped around the handle. So I did what anyone would do (in my mind anyway). I unwrapped the chain and walked in. The inside sliding glass door was locked and I couldn't actually get into the house to look around, but about that time, a woman shows up outside and says "can I help you?" It turns out that the house was actually owned by the neighbor and she has no intention of selling it. It was a few minutes of akward conversation, but funny in the end. She however, didn't seem very amused.

Lesson learned: next time, talk to the neighbor before going to a "vacant" property.

Doing what you did where I live, you can end up shot pretty easily.

Too funny, I think that's lesson one in the class and question 1 in on the real estate exam. (smiley here)

Man, I feel for you. I have had some awkward experiences before. Once, I went to show a "vacant" property which had homeless squatters inside.

When I was about 25 I was visiting a friend in Florida, and who had been talking with the Seller of a property about buying it. We went to have a look. The doors were standing open and the house was in shambles. We went in and looked around and came out to a bunch of police with guns drawn. My friend who was a rich spoiled brat idiot started ranting and raving with the police. So they called the owner who was so drunk he was unintelligable.

Long story short I spent the weekend in jail as an out of state person with 300K bail. The Seller died before trial so the charges were dropped.
