My local board are trying to change the rules on the MLS to make it manditory that you show the listing agents name and brokerage on the pre-detials pages. Currently Realtor.com doesnt even do this. First question is can they do this? Second question is can I claim a grandfather clause?
See basicaly how I have my IDX set up the viewers can see minor info when they search such as one picture, beds, Baths, Price. If they want more details they have to registar to get full details. On the full details page I have the Listing Agent and Brokerage. So the Third Question. Do I fight this and get it defeated. Or do I allow it to pass, claim grandfathered in and make it so my competition cannot do it but I can do to the whole Grandfathered in thing? I hope this is understandable! |

Each board of Realtors decides how to control MLS data. It will likely be a losing battle.

I agree - I think their response to you would be "don't like it, don't use the MLS".
But, you can always take a shot and see what happens.

Pretty simple advice to dispense:
"Do nothing and watch the world go by. Say something and have an impact." I've read plenty of your post. You don't strike me as the sort to refrain from voicing your opinion. Our MLS's may be vastly different, but I'm not aware of any configuration on our MLS (FMLS) that allows for grandfathering of senior members.

Also, realtor.com is a self-serving site that is capitalizing on a trademarked name that we all pay annual dues to utilize. They will be more than happy to display your name... for a fee.

Sam - I've found that Board's can do pretty much anything they like. I'm highly sceptical that you would be able to do anything about their new compliance requirements - certainly grandfathering your site as it is unlikely.
Before you get all twisted out of shape about their proposed changes, see the PM I'm about to send you .... it might change your views on the proposed changes. |

I am fighting it along with a bunch of other people. I live in a small town and we have a small board. It is coming up for vote next in September after we have a discussion on the matter. I am prepairing a little speech/education session for that meeting being that most the realtors don't even know what IDX is. I find it quite sad that our board president is making changes without even knowing really what he is doing.
