My REW website just went live and I am working out some of the details of the switchover. Anyway, this came up and I am wondering what you guys think about it. Months ago, I changed my preferred domain name to http:// buyhawkeye .com from http:// www .buyhawkeye .com. Basically, I dropped the www.
It is an option you can select under webmaster tools and used to display your website in the SERPs. It seemed cleaner to me. Since then, all my inbound links have been pointing to my domain (less the www). After going live on REW, my sitemap directs everyone to the domain including the www. This has brought up a question. Do you think this will have any adverse impact on my rankings given that all inbound links go to http:// buyhawkeye .com and the sitemap points to http:// www .buyhawkeye .com? Oh, for further clarification, in order to get the new sitemap to work properly, I had to change my preference on the webmaster tools to allow for the www.

I was a fan of MASH growing up. However, did you take a look at my avatar?

It is best to have everything consistent, across the board.

From what I understand, you should pick one way to write the url and stick with it. It really doesn't matter which one you choose but you need to be consistent. Otherwise Google will think you have duplicate content if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks for the input. I have made the change and have been crawled a few times with no adverse results. I am sticking with the www going forward and changing all the other links that I have control over to reflect the change.

Trojan: You got it! That would be the Navy's E-2C Hawkeye and my baby. As I have said in the past, the military pays me for my skills not my creativity. (Plus, Hawkeye Properties was already taken...)

I like Hawkey in the original MASH novel, but not as much in the television show. What's Google?

I chose the 'www.' prefix just because whenever you get that random, incoming, one-way link it's typically done using the www. Since I can't control those linking to me, it seemed to make sense. Like Jason said, you want things to stay consistent.
My theory anyway (shrugs shoulders)
