Default Home page to home page linking, is it worth it?

I want to know about linking from home page to home page. Do you really get a better return on your links? How much and why?

Absolutely zilch.
A page is a page for G.
What matters is:-
1. The text of the page for relevance of anchor
2. The total no. of links for PR

Actually Mike, it depends.

The reason homepage links CAN be very beneficial is as follows: The homepage generally has more pagerank than the rest of the site (which is simply because everyone usually requests links TO their homepage) - and generally the homepage does not have as many outbound links (links pointing to other sites) on it as would a link page. Because of these factors you can receive more benefit because of higher PR AND a greater amount of that PR passing due to fewer outbounds. Of course, assuming it is of interest =) you would also potentially receive more traffic from the link, which may or may not be targeted enough to matter.

As for most real estate sites....I will agree the benefit is zilch. This is because the over zealous in this realm have defeated their own purpose by placing TONS of outbound links on their homepage. In effect, these particular homepages are worth no more than a link page...and less than some link pages.

If you want to start working on front page linking, I would seriously suggest deciding how you want to do it, setting some rules and making sure those you are linking to are in agreement. A FEW homepage links can be beneficial ...tons really are pointless (and besides it would make your site look like a link dump).

Just for the record, Yes a webpage is a webpage....but Google DOES recognize domains and what pages belong to what sites.

You would get more traffic from a home page link vs a page full of links or domain.com/slim/chance/bots/will/ever/see/this/page.htm for the simple reason of people leaving after hitting the home page and the number of visitors you lose after each click... Study that ..

If your trading traffic between like sites home page links are a good way to get traffic and share traffic.

If they are not like sites your just inviting the surfer for a trip back into cyberspace

wow I was tired when I wrote that.
