So maybe this is old news but I just saw my first ask.com commercial. They are directly targeting google. They show a G homepage and then they have a "would you rather search this way or this way" and then move to a shot of the ask page.

maybe the question should be "would you rather get relevant results or use a search engine which doesn't index even some of their own pages?"
like a video game, you can't aim for level 5 before you even beat level2 (MSN) |

I've really enjoyed the influx of ASK.COM ads lately--- they are one of the few ads that I stop and watch/listen to.
But. I haven't actually USED ask.com since seeing all these ads... which says a lot about the (lack of) power in advertising like this, in traditional methods.

Anyone remember the days of metacrawler.. that used like 5 different search engines?
I miss those days. I used ask.com back then too... poor jeeves.

The thing to remember though is that they are actually advertising on TV which I think would generate more users to their site.

It's funny to see this thread...a couple of nights ago I saw those ads while watching TV with the kids and they thought it was cool and now they're using Ask, they think it's "cooler". Of course they're 11 and 13 and anything without 3D graphics and game controller is uncool to them.

I have seen their TV ads, and tried to use it as a search engine, but their results are far from relevant. I wonder what they are using to determine what should show up. for a real estate search I compared what came up in ask as compared to google and in the top 20 results, their was only 1 of googles results showing up in the ask top 20. Almost all of the ask results are 4th page or further back in google.
So that makes me ask myself, if you were to say which one of the search engines is more relevant, which would you say? Oh and you know how in the commercial they show blogs on the side, well for this search they show none and I know there are at least 2 because I right both of them. but ask displays no blogs at all for that search.
