I have recently started a major project for my website. I am putting together a page for all the builders and their subdivisions in town. I plan on visiting the communities and talking the sales agents and taking photos for my website. Here is an example of a builder’s page:
http://www.indyrebaterealestate.com/BeazerHomes.php Here is an example of a community page: http://www.indyrebaterealestate.com/...alkerFarms.php The text is 100% original and the tables are information that is available on the builder’s website. I have done this for a few so far and then written a blog about each to get some links to the pages. The problem I have is that the community pages seem to have slipped into the supplemental results and can’t be found anywhere. I was undertaking this task because I thought it would be helpful to the user to have one consolidated site to get info for all the builders and of course to generate traffic for some less competitive KWs. My question is this, is their a way to do this without having the community pages go into supplemental? Are they going into supplemental because they are too much alike ( similar set up, format, etc.)? |

You are going to hear lots of theories about this. Mine is that g keeps a percentage of pages in the sup index. I pulled a bunch of high quality pages out of the sup index by adding a bunch of low quality pages to my site. Pretty crazy and some will consider me a fool for saying this, but it worked.

How long ago did you create these pages. I have seen on my site and others that a page may be cached and indexed only to leave for a while - up to a week or so and then they come back...

I am no expert, but I tried the "site:" command also and their are pages in their that I am quite certain are in the supplemental results.

Site command does not work like it used to. You can add /& on the end to get supps.
Also I checked several sites that are at the top of large cities with PC Doc's tool (cool tool! Doc) but did not find a lot of correlation between % supp and where they ranked. I found some large cities where sites that are 88% to 93% supplemental dominated the results in their city. This is interesting to me. Any thoughts on this?

My thoughts are that the tool does not work! Yesterday after I saw the tool, I check and it said I had one number of indexed pages, then I checked G Webmasters tools and it said another, then I checked something else and it said something else.
I think that Google has succesfully masked the sup index. In the end, none of it appears to matter.... What matters is whether or not the pages that you are trying to rank for, rank well. If they don't , it doesn't matter if they are "supplemental" or they are in the regular index. You need more work on those pages. This morning I checked GW tools and it said I have 303 pages indexed. Do I try to rank #1 for all of those pages? Nope. So, my point is that from what I can see by looking at my website and other peoples websites is that it is time wasted that would be better spent working on the pages of your site that you want to rank high for.
