Default Google not indexing past first few pages...

Greetings,

My site is a national high-rise condo site, and I've noticed that Google indexes the city pages fairly well but then very little beyond that. What I'm hoping is that once Google gets to, say, the Dallas pagethat it will then index all the building and neighborhood pages. Any advice? Is there a linking strategy internal to the site that I should follow? Also I recall that when we set the site up the URL structure was www.highrises.com/highrises/city/dallas/.... and I asked to have it changed to www.highrises.com/city/dallas/.... could that be a redirect issue that Google doesn't like?

Any advice is much appreciated!

Brian

welcome Brian,
your problem with indexing could be to do with linking structure (internal) or that you don't have enough PR to go around.
submitting a sitemap will help both in indexing aswell as identifying any problems google encounters.

Btw, its not advisable to post live links here!

Thanks avonreal. Sorry about the links... certainly didn't mean any disrespect there to the group. I was hoping someone would take a look at the page and let me know if they saw any glaring linking structure issues.

I did submit an XML sitemap that REW was kind enough to create for me to Google a few months ago. Do you know if we should re-submit that sitemap to them each time we add a page to the site, or does it do that automatically.

Thanks again.

If you have an xml sitemap, you need to use the generator in the backend (If it was installed) - You do not resubmit as Google pings sitemaps regularly if they are in appropriate format.

My first impression is that you just don't have a diverse enough linking portfolio (Variance in links, as well as link locations) - I would be switching up the destination points for my inbound links (Pages not just anchor texts) so that not all spiders hit just the main page, or a few main pages, but clusters of content (If that makes sense)

Incidentally, those redirects (As long as they are proper 301's) should not be a problem at all.
