My main web site was on page 1, in fourth position. The host of my site had a server problem and as you could guess Google stopped by while it was down. My home page is totally gone from the Redding California Real Estate search results. Now only a secondary page shows up at #55. Webmaster tools shows 11 pages returned a 404 (not found)
Question: Is there a way to expedite the sites return? Is there a way to contact Google or request a re-inclusion? Another interesting fact: Yahoo (I rank #1 on it for the same term) also stopped by and for a short time showed on the search results the that the site was down but they seem to have recognized the problem, went back to the site and I never dropped out of position....well done Yahoo. Thanks in advance for any help.

its unusual that they'd drop you after just one 404, googlebot will try again and you will be back in a few days.
A re-inclusion is only necessary if you've been banned. you'd submit it after you rectify the violation. |

Are you sure it's due to a server outage? I also would think it unusual if you were dropped after 1 outage. I removed a couple pages from my site and didn't request them removed and it took months for G to remove them.
Right now there is a lot of SERP fluctuation - I would bet your drop is due to that rather than a brief server outage.

Server outages of short periods would not cause a drop like this IMO Google bot visit or not - I tend to be on the same page as erogers on this one.

Lewi-
After reading the responses, I'm in agreement with them that this does not sound like a Googlebot visit and kerplunk you are out. and if it was, a reinclusion request is not where to start IMO. Are you ranking for common terms that your site would naturally HAVE to rank for (non - competitive terms)? Best; Eric

The server was down for 7 days. It was over the Labor Day weekend and they had to fly in parts from Washington after the holiday (so they tell me). The 404's were over a few days span according to Webmaster tools and Googles last successful access of the home page was before the outage happened. They apparently tried on Aug 30th and Sept 2 without success. The site was back online on the 6th, no visit yet.
I am hoping avonreal is right. Any other thoughts

Sorry Eric for not answering
Yes the site is still ranking for some search terms from other pages that weren't 404'd during the outage. Also still showing up in images where I have a good presence. Unfortunatly the traffic I want and have recieved in the past is not coming in right now.
