I suspect there is a PR toolbar push going on right now, actually...I could've sworn I saw a PR5 on my blog page earlier today and it's a 4 now. At any rate, we are due an update very soon.

Usually every 3 months, the latest one was expected a month ago but hasn't happened yet.
Bassically to increase your PR you need relevant links that don't have the 'no follow' tag in them. |

More quality links to your site/page.
Internal PR is calculated on a continual basis. A snapshot of internal PR is generally exported to the Toolbar (Foolbar) PR meter every 3-4 months.

I saw the PR update on a few servers a month ago, then it vanished?? But it doesn't really matter anyway. The toolbar PR seems to be updated once a quarter, but all that matters is your placement. Your site's PR can help you exchange links easier, that is about it.

You may be waiting a while.
Matt Cutts on TBPR Update All that matters is your site is moving up the SERPS. TBPR is a meaningless stat. Real Page Rank that only Google sees Internally is important but the green pixels you see in the tool bar are not worth the time and effort so many seem to put forth.

I have a novel idea, if there is such an issue with people buying links from high PR webpages, why doesn't Google just get rid of this whole Pagerank thing?

I don't see where there would be a problem here...Before there was a PR toolbar, they used PR to help with rankings.
All the toolbar does is allow a rough (very rough) estimate of the PR of a page. It's not like they created PR and the toolbar as a concerted effort. They just allow you to see it with the toolbar. Blaming people who abuse a system is more effective than blaming the system in most cases and I think this is another one of those cases. If you see someone buying links, you are more than welcomed, in fact, you are asked to report them. To me, the toolbar is more or less addictive the same way AR points are. Helpful? Not so sure...Addictive? Maybe. ![]()
