Default Myspace viral campaign idea, your thoughts?

I have a lot of web 1.0 (if that is a term lol) work to do still but intend to get a myspace up eventually for communication and marketing to the younger (than me) generation. I came up with this and wanted to see what you guys think about ROI with younger marketing. I figure there are a lot of young professionals now using myspace or soon and wonder how to reach them.

I was thinking of doing with a request to add "Beat my 8 year old at Halo 3 on XBOX Live and I will send you a card for free month of XBOX Live" (or xbox marketplace maybe). They have to go to a contact form on your site to give you their email, name & address to register for the battle. The cards run $10 or so I think but I haven't looked into it, maybe bulk would be cheaper if you could get them. I think if you checked out profiles and sent it to profiled people (not the broke musicians & basement dwellers lol) you could build a pretty good contact base of young degreed professionals. I think these people would remember you as a savvy agent and you could send marketing materials with the card and put them on a drip system. I know if somebody challenges me to Halo I don't care who you are it is on buddy. (Don't try it, I don't have the time right now).

It would be very expensive at $10 a lead but I think you could get some quality ones out of it. This is where I get into territory I don't know about marketing yet. (Haven't studied it too much yet, been in the basement writing content for 3 months hehe). For those who don't know about Halo it is huge. I just want something to vibe with the young folk and I know enough about marketing that offering something of value for free gets a lot of bites. What do you think of this or will I go broke? Actually the kid is pretty dang good at Halo so I might not have to send out many cards lol. Just bouncing stuff around, thanks for your thoughts. I have tough skin so if I am an idiot don't be afraid to say so.

P.S. No I don't let him use the mic or voice on Live with all the profanity, he is a silent slayer

When people are getting ready to buy real estate they go to a search engine and start looking at real estate. Be on the search engines and offer real estate and you will have the professionals, old and young, come to you.

Spend your time and money on your site, it needs a lot of both.

Rather than having a standard Prudential site that any Prudential agent can have, why not invest your time and money into site hosted by someone that specializes in real estate web sites. I think your ROI will be much greater.

With so much spam and phishing going on in MySpace already, I would venture to guess that your idea would also fall victim to the "Mark as Spam" button...

As previously mentioned, I would recommend starting with the basics.

LOL, OK guys. I hate to keep having to tell my story on every thread but I intend to get off the prude template soon enough, good sites ain't cheap. I intend to be placing in the serps of course, the myspace thing was something additional for down the road but I guess not.

Edit: I said I had thick skin but that one hurt deep down in my happy place BigToe.

I received the same criticism a few months ago. It galvanized me into doing something about it. Now I have a site that I am particularly proud of (always a work in progress).

Always try and attack the marketing issue from different angles, but the big stuff always takes priority. If you want to get into the world of internet marketing, you need a site that can stand on its own two legs. Start there, then get creative in your marketing endeavor.
