Default How does google treat white on white text.

Before everyone goes off on black hat SEO and keyword stuffing on webpages, this is NOT an attempt to improve pages ranking. I am trying to determine the best way to help my clients.

The Realtors and real estate agent in our area do not wish us to place the street address on the web site. However, the home buyers like to be able to search by street name so they can find specific listings. We are hoping to be able to place the street address in the description using white on white text. This way if a potential client know the address they can search for it, however the casual browser will not see the address.

How will Google handle this text? Will they ban the page or do other nasty stuff? Is there a better way on doing this?

(I do know that a user can easly find the text it they know it is there)

I can see what you want to do with this. Very interesting question and I'm not sure you will like the answers you get, but you are probably already thinking that.

I agree with Sam, this is an interesting question. First off, why is the agent opposed to having the address show? To answer your question, from Google, avoid hidden text or hidden links.

Aside from cloaking, you could try adding the address to the alt attribute of an image of the property... you could also link to the page using the address as the anchor text.

You do not need to publish the address on a particular page in order to query it with a search function that queries a database, I am assuming you keep your listings in a database - so just don't populate the address on the actual page, you can still search by it.

They want the potential clients to call them for that information. We are slowly education them that once the MLS number is know, finding the address is not very hard. If it was up to me, I would have the address, a satalite photo, a road map and directions to the property. Yes, that might cut down on the number of calls, but those that call would be more likly to buy.

Oh-well; as long as they pay the bills I will advertise them the way the agent wants.

If you must hide them, CSS is the way to go. It's generally not necessary though.
