The H tags are heading tags that format your text into headings. H1 is the most prominent (largest), H2 the second, and so forth. If Morgan is saying that you need to mind the content of each heading tag, it's probably a good idea. What he is essentially saying is that the search engines look to these tags for relevant meaning for SEO. Don't fill them with junk, essentially.

Any suggestions on the proper/right use for heading tags?

Strange I was just searching for this very subject tonight when I read this thread.
One thing that seems to stand out in all the blogs I manage or personally own is that google, msn, and yahoo seem to enjoy the H1 - H3 tags that are similar in word content to the title tag. I'm curious if anyone else is experiencing the same thing. ~ Jared Ritchey |

My experience -- it does not matter. Content matters and that is the bottom line.

Google does place a larger impact on H1-H3 tags. It values H1's the most and H3's the least. The reason being is it considers H1's as the topic's of your pages, H2's as subtopics, and H3's and subtopics of H2's. Therefore, you will probably use H1's the least and H3's the most, which is why Google places the most value on H1's.
One thing you might consider is modifying your H1 tags into your stylesheets so that they actually compliment the looks of your website. The default use of an H1 tag is pretty big and may not look good on your site without a little stylesheet modification. |

I've read somewhere that only H1's have value in SEO. As for the reason, that I don't know
