Default Tags in Active Rain? Helpful or Hurtful?

Hi guys!

For those of you who use it, what are your tips for optimizing Active Rain posts?

*And in terms of tags for Active Rain, what is the best way to use them?
* Is it more powerful if we stick to a handful of tags that act like categories and assign each post to one of those? Or if we make specific tags for each entry?

Thanks!
Aubrey

I use different tags for each blog depending on the topic

I am not sure on this one, only have my own experience to go on. When I post something for one of the towns I write for, if I use a common tag such as city NJ Real Estate, and I had used that tag on the last post I wrote for that city, the last AR post of mine is knocked out of the first many pages of that google search. So just knocking myself out of their.

Lost on this one. Am relatively new to posting on the blogs and not sure where or what should be included insofar as KW or tags. Can someone point me to a link to get me up to speed on this or care to PM me one of theirs and help me understand the logic of the structure? Thanks

GreggRio,

KW's are what someone would type into a search engine to find a given subject or website just like in your sig. Typical kw's for an agent would be "city" real estate or "city state" real estate just like your sig.

Tags are the words used in a hyperlink, like the ones in your sig.

The combination of the tags using kw's is the seo portion. Use the same technique in blogs to get SE ranks for your blogs. So when you write your blog, use kw's and tags well (not over done) as well as text formatting etc.

Bascially write your blogs similar to how you write pages for your website.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, some terminology I haven't yet gotten, but am learning. I think I am getting the idea and will play around. I havne't tried to see where a topic of a blog went in the SE's, more for getting some stuff up. Some had mentioned tying to blog to earlier ones. How does one do that? Hyper -link the string code and say something like to read more of this author.... or something?

I always try to weave in a hyperlink back to my site somehow tieing on the subject. Any suggestions or links you might suggest that may give me a good example of what you do. I appreciate the insights.

Have you read any of the REW blogs? Lots of good examples there by members of the forums. In fact, they are some of the best blogs on RE out there. Of course, there are some not so great ones, but at least people are trying.

For my examples, follow my sig to the website and click the blog link. Lots of examples there.

You will get some good traffic from Activerain, if you write your posts correctly. I would tag them, based on the content of the post, and do not forget to use your keyword in the title. Activerain posts rank very well on Google, if written correctly

Tags are designed by their very nature to allow users to find other topically related content, thus you should "Tag" your blog posts with your user in mind, thinking that they may click your tags if the subject matter is of interest to them, so that they may find other posts of yours with the same or similar subjects. Think user not SEO - that is the best SEO
