Default Squidoo Links/Tags

We have several Squidoo lenses and I've noticed many of the real estate lenses I've come across on Squidoo are using tags improperly to the point of no effect. In my REW blog today, I wrote up a primer on Squidoo tagging for the purpose of creating inbound links for those who have an interest in Squidoo lenses. FYI

Thanks and thanks!

You can see why the use of the tag "home," or perhaps "real estate," may be useless for many real estate lenses.

In regards to your primer, do you have a special way you look for high PR tags? I find them on occasion by randomly clicking on the tag clouds, but did not know if there was some better way.

The simplest way to find higher PR tags, is looking at the tag clouds you see around Squidoo. The larger words (larger fonts) typically have the higher pr.

Having said this, place relevancy of the tag over pr. Also, I took a quick peek at the lensrank of your lenses, and your lensrank(s) are too low to benefit from any tag page with pr. For further explanation on that, reread the blog entry, as I delve into that aspect of the tag.

Not too sure about that...

On Oct 2 this lense: http://www.squidoo.com/El-Cajon/ had a lense rank of over 38,000. As of this writting it is up to a lense rank of 7361. I did nothing but add some more tags and also added some of my other lenses to the lense roll.

I probably should have just messed with the tag cloud and waited a week before I added the other sites to the lense roll to really test the effects of the tag cloud...

My thinking is with certain tags every page has decent pr. But how can adding 40 links not help these lenses?

Bob,

Actually, I reread your post. I wasn't saying thataway61 wouldn't benefit from tagging, I was saying he wouldn't benefit from a tag with PR. To be on a tag page with PR a lens would need to be within a page or two of the first tag page. And a lens needs a decent lensrank for that to happen. For instance, I have a lens on Recycling. Generally, it has a lensrank under 100 (today it is #59). A couple of the tag pages I am on are here and here. Because the lens has a decent lensrank, it benefits from tag pages with PR. In this case, the two pages used as an example are PR5 and PR4 (according to the foolbar!).

BTW Bob, your lensrank jump is probably due to your updating the lens, not necessary adding the tags. I have found that Squidoo algos favor frequent updating as well as traffic.
