What is everyone's thought on linking with directories or sites that turn around and drive traffic to HomeGain or other lead generators?

My thoughts on the Sarasota Association of REALTORS actions.

I believe that the directory on this site is the only one I link to that sends traffic to HG. I'm not thrilled with it but the benefits that I've gained from this forum outweigh my concern for the traffic that winds up going to HG. If another site that is affiliated with HG were to ask for a link exchange I would decline.

If I'm aware that a site turns traffic to HG I definitely would not link to it. With that said, I didn't realize that the directory on this site does that.

I think every agent hates HG, but I bet the amount of people in this forum that have great serps get more relevant hits and $ per hit then HG does.
I wouldn't worry about it as much as "not linking with them"

Search Homes for Sale in SAN DIEGO and other San Diego Real Estate via the San Diego MLS.

Funny thing I started this do to other directories that I have linked to in the past that turned into what I like to call "HomeGain whores". Have had to stop linking to a few sights that had been giving me PR4 links do to this. Wasn't really thinking that this site was one of them.

Now my question is how much revenue could this really bring in a site like this that makes it worth it (I did read the other thread first)? Wouldn't you be better served finding more clients and helping them get better results as opposed to creating more compitition for all of us?

Hate to say it but your sevices had been on my list for my next site, but I am going to have to really think about it now as you are sleeping with the enemey IMO. Takes a lot of .12 per clicks to make up for the cost of losing one website plus monthly link building client.

Seems pretty easy to me. HG is spending millions to try and get in the middle of real estate transactions. Lowering the profit margins that agents and offices get. They are the enemey to Realtors long term future (as are banks).

If you colloct money from real estate agents for services then help promote HG you are "slepping with the enemey".

Was it offered to the forum memebers to pick up areas at .12 per click? This way money can still be made without promoting a company like HG. If you can't see how collecting money from real estate agents for service like Web Design and then turning around and promoting HG is a bad thing you need some common sense. Very low on the business ethics scale.

Then to top it off you get links from real estate agents to increase the PR and authority status of the site then use that given power to promote the compitition. Just the opinion of one agent who's had a very bad day and who hates what HG is trying to do to our industry.

I am actually going to remove the HG directory as it produces absolutely nothing, and I know it gets clicks so go figure, I did it a while ago to attempt to recoup some of the costs of running this place, but I realize now that I get enough in the form of referrals and helpful information on real estate from the members that it certainly isnt necessary to find alternative forms of revenue generation for this site.

I will take it down today
