What would it cost (chargeable time wise) to retro-fit a standard REW 800 pix template site to full 1024 (or 980 with allowance for vertical scroll bar?) width, including upgrading to a wide-hack CMS?
I would guess a mostly minor tweak for DIV widths, plus wider branding and slide show graphics (if applicable), and installation of a wide-hack CMS (preferably). Anything else? In my case, I have no slide show graphics, and I did the header branding graphic myself, as I would a wider version. A wide hack CMS would be great, but maybe not absolutely necessary? The main goal is to allow the page navigation DIV to remain visible on IDX IFrame and other pages that I have to specify as wide-hack pages now, and also to allow for my new REW custom IDX, which will probably require wide-hack pages for all IDX detail displays, as well as for the map search.

Ronnie,
Moriah in the design dept is actually working on some 1024 templates as we speak (We plan on offering them soon) - it would certainly be cheaper to hold off (Just for a short while) - so that we can pay to have all the R&D done (Testing in FF, IE 6, IE 7) etc and then just ordering an upgrade - this way it would only be a couple of hours.

Hi Ronnie,
960 is generally the preferred width for sites optimized for a 1024 resolution (leaves room for scroll bars, browser chrome, etc.) Because you'll be providing branding graphics & you only have the 1 "slideshow" image, converting your site to a wide layout would probably take 1.5-2 hours. I say 2 hours just to be safe... weird things can crop up when you start re-arranging CSS layouts. 2 hours would give enough time to debug.

Incidentally, for others reading this - other templates will take quite a bit more time if they have slideshows because you have to completely redo each image and each slide for the wider version - Ronnie's is so quick because he just has one static image.

Right, I should have mentioned that. Also, he'll be providing the (new) branding banner graphic. That cuts down on the time as well.

If "for a short while" means in the next 30 days, and the upgrade route would be the more stable way to go and easier for REW to support in the long run, then I can wait, but put me at the top of the list for that 1024 template upgrade! My site is a pretty vanilla standard template, other than: a) the static image on home page vs. slide shows, b) no graphics or slide shows on interior pages except the branding banner, c) custom main div background color, and d) wide hack CMS mod, which I hope would no longer be necessary with the wider pages.
As Moriah works on the new templates, they should be tested with various plug-in IFramed IDX products in the main div for width compatibility, since that seems to be the biggest issue with the current templates. It would be a shame to do all that work only to find that many IDX plug-ins still don't fit well! For example, my current IDX plug-in requires about 700 pix for a detailed listing display, including a few extra for padding. Add 40 for scroll bar, plus 200 for (current width) left side navigation, and I am at 940 pix total, so a 960 pix max would work just fine. But if you also plan on adding to the left side navigation area as well, say expanding it from 200 to 240 pix to support a slightly larger nav link font, then that puts a squeeze on the available IDX plug-in area.

Huh? Your MLS's IDX framed in old style framesets? What have you been smoking? No, I would never do anything like that again, but did in my very first website until I learned better, and found a great 3rd party IDX product that has been working fairly well for me. The point I was making has to do with REW's new wider templates supporting various IDX plug-in products, not any other technical solution. Plus, once they get my custom IDX done, it won't matter to me anyway, but it might to other REW template clients.
