Default Best HTML Editor?

Wanted everyone's opinnion.

From my understanding a LONG time ago, the search engines LOVE notepad edited websites or ones that were created without the use of commercial editing programs. I've never used a editor before like dreamweaver, front page or the like.

Maybe because of this, or just what's on my website, i've managed to get to the first page on yahoo/msn and very good positioning on Google as well. I don't want to loose my position on any of them , but editing my website has got to a point ,it's VERY hard to take a banner or what not out of the 30+ HTML pages that are on my website.

Do any of you have a favorite? Free is best, as most of the software i use is open source, and i love using open source soft ware. Even if i could just find one that would load multiple HTML files in Note pad, so i could edit specific parts of code that are in all the files it'd be good.

Hi,

I've used this for some time http://www.htmlkit.com/ and it's free.

Some of its methods are a little obscure but if you get it then email me and I can walk you through to get you started

Usually this question is asked about every month or two. For the most part (and I would be willing to bet), that the serious folks use Notepad++, the semi-serious (myself) use Dreamweaver, and those looking for a free, easy to use editor, will download NVU.

I have notepad++ , right now it doesn't seem "Better" other than the syntax highlighting than normal notepad, and usually I can figure out what works and doesn't.

Someone sugguested in another thread to try joomla, I'm going to use it in one of my websites as a sandbox type thing and see if it works well or not.

I use a combo of notepad (not ++... too lazy to install it and map it to my keyboard shortcut ) and dreamweaver. I use dreamweaver to get a WYSIWYG going on when I'm positioning things.

I'm starting a site with Joomla 1.5 (RC2) for the CMS. You are welcome to take a look. I haven't started on the style yet, I've been working on getting all of the content formatted.

I've been using an older version of this text editor for a long time:

http://www.arachnoid.com/arachnophilia/

I tend to use several different programs for different types of editing or certain features, but when I need mass search and replace capability I open this one up. I've replaced 100+ lines of code in 50 pages at once with it, and smaller blocks in up to 200 pages, lightning fast. I'll admit I haven't looked at the newest version in a while because my old one has served me so well, but it's a solid program worth a look, and it's free.

For the record, which HTML editor you use makes zero difference to any of the search engines. I use dreamweaver for straight-up HTML stuff, wordpad for PHP, and IntelliJ for java/jsp.
